Butch and Erin had been trying for over a year to have a child. On a regular basis people were asking them when they were going to have a child. This was always such a difficult question to face. At that time, infertility was not even on their radar. When you're young and healthy, you just assume that having a family will happen like it does with everyone else in the world (or so it seems).
And then the miscarriage happened at 9.5 weeks.
In talking with Erin about this miscarriage, I was struck by the positive note of strength flowing through her words. And I look forward to telling more of their story.
Butch and Erin's story does not end with their struggle with infertility. It does not end with the miscarriage.
This piece is called New Strength because Erin explained to me that she and her husband found this time to be very strengthening to them. To their marriage and to their walk with the Lord. Erin discovered a podcast called Risen Motherhood - several episodes deal with miscarriage. This and several songs about loss were a retreat for her.
"New Strength" is based on a clematis flower and vine. A vine is tenacious and strong. And the beauty of life is in the flower. It represents all Erin spoke of and the love they will always carry for their Shadow Flower.
