Silent Spring
In celebration of the life of Aviv Larkin
Katie and her husband lost their baby early on. These are her words:
"We were so excited in early January to realize that we were going to be having our second child in 2020! However, on March 17 we found out that God was giving this little life wings a bit earlier than we expected. We got to see this beautiful life on ultrasound and before we said goodbye, we named our baby Aviv Larkin, which means ‘born in spring, silently.’
When Sarah told me about her Shadow Flower Project I knew I wanted a cherry blossom for Aviv and a daisy for me. I had just been given a gift of an engraved necklace with a cherry blossom for Aviv’s March birthday and an engraved daisy for my April birthday. With these engraved flowers came the following descriptions:
‘Cherry blossoms are an emblem of beauty in the moment. These delicate flowers have a breathtaking and short lived bloom. They represent all the beautiful, fleeting & cherished moments.’ Does that not perfectly represent a miscarriage?
And a portion of the daisy description says, ‘...They’re the flower of fresh starts - making it the perfect emblem for anyone taking on a new venture.’ Does that not perfectly represent a mother now venturing into the unknown of wading through deep grief whilst pursuing another pregnancy, a fresh start?
So as our Shadow Flower sits on the dresser in our bedroom it is a daily reminder of fleeting beauty and the hope of fresh starts as we remember the short lived bloom of Aviv Larkin Burrows, who was born in spring, silently."
