This is the first of the Resilience Shadow Flower Collection for Beth and Brent. Beth had 5 miscarriages. We decided to do one for each child. To give honor to each child. Beth chose the flower for each and the colors - green, pink, gold and white. The titles I have chosen are words that describe what enables a couple to walk through the loss of a child. This first one is based on a Calla Lily and is called Faith.

A Calla lily symbolizes faith. In particular, in the Christian realm, it stands for faith in the resurrection of Jesus Christ. And because of His resurrection, these immortal lines were written: "Death is swallowed up in victory."

Beth and Brent believe in the resurrection. And because of their faith, they can walk through the loss of 5 children knowing that victory is on the other side.

The first 4 miscarriages were all in a row. One every year. For four years. 4 years filled with hope, joy, sadness, loss.

And so I am calling this set "Resilience". It's a word that came up in my conversations with Beth. And it's how I see this couple. Resilient beyond words.

She told me "I just ask God to help me handle the situation that is in front of me. That I will flourish where I am at."
And they have.
